Armed Informed Mothers' March - A.I.M.M. Since its inception in early January, the Armed Informed Mothers' March has garnered a tremendous amount of interest from every corner of the United States. It looks like there are many concerned citizens who do not want the "Million Moms" to speak on behalf of the American people. In truth, the majority of Americans would rather not see any more restrictions put on gun owners, according to a recent Zogby poll: Better Enforcement Wins Over New Gun Laws - Monday February 7, 2000 UTICA, NY (Reuters/Zogby) -- By almost a two to one margin, 1,201 adults last week declared ''enough, already'' to the enactment of new and tougher gun legislation to fight crime. Six in 10 of the respondents to the Zogby America poll taken in February want better law enforcement of current gun control statues rather than more gun control laws, while 34.7% said more laws were still needed. What we asked: "Which of the following statements best represents your position on gun control? Statement A: There needs to be more new and tougher gun control legislation to help in the fight against gun crime. Statement B: There are enough laws on the books. What is needed is better enforcement of current laws.''
MEDIA OUTLETS ARE STARTING TO NOTICE In the meantime, SAS is continuing to promote A.I.M.M. through a number of outlets. Our initial press release went out to news organizations nationwide near the end of January. The results so far have been articles by Joanne Kenen of Reuters, Jon Dougherty of World Net Daily and John Bender of Ether Zone. Our official spokeswoman, Kim Watson, has been busy making the rounds of radio programs across the country. To date, she has been a guest on shows hosted by Jerry Hughes (national), Mary Starret (Portland, Oregon) and Ken Hamblin (national), and has appeared on GOA's "Live Fire" (national) and Florida Online (Tallahassee). "Live Fire" shows are archived at Gun Owners of America, so if you didn't catch it live, you can still check it out! Ken Hamblin has generously offered SAS a 15-second spot to promote A.I.M.M. on his nationally syndicated radio show; these will run through the beginning of May. Be sure to visit The Black Avenger Cave and let Mr. Hamblin know how much you appreciate his support of the March. A schedule of appearances and printed materials are available at the Second Amendment Sisters-Armed Informed Mothers web site. CONTACT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS As for the March itself, tentative plans are to hold it on the Mall in Washington DC, on Sunday, May 14. We are planning to have speakers from all walks of life who have experienced the terror of violent crime, and are alive today because they were able to defend themselves with weapons. We also hope to have some speakers who are experts on crime, self-defense and the Constitution. If you are interested in being a speaker, or know someone who is, please e-mail moms4guns@yahoo.com and include SPEAKERS in the subject line. You may also call our toll-free telephone number - 877-271-6216. ACCOMODATIONS AND TRAVEL STATE ORGANIZATION State Coordinators Arkansas (Charlene) aimm_arkansas@yahoo.com We will be adding more states in the very near future. Anyone interested in being a State Coordinator may E-mail moms4guns@yahoo.com. Please include STATE COORDINATOR and your state in the subject line. ENDORSEMENTS, SPONSORS AND DONATIONS HOW YOU CAN HELP May 14 is only three months away, and there is much work to do. However, with U.S. gun owners numbering near 80 million, we should be able to beat back the Million-Mom attack - but we don't have the luxury of assuming someone else is going to take care of things. What is important to remember is that we must take it upon ourselves to provide much-needed information to the public. After the Armed Informed Mothers' March, Second Amendment Sisters would like
to continue to play a role in educating the public on firearms issues in
conjunction with women's issues. With your support, we can rest assured that the
voice of freedom will not be silenced by solutions of convenience. Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Messenger. |
